Seeking to represent process engineering.

The Annual General Meeting of Engineers Ireland will be held on Wednesday 31 May 2017, at 6:30pm in the theatre at Engineers Ireland, Dublin HQ. Like most organisations this meeting will inaugurate the president for the following year and the results of the ballot for the Governing Council will be announced. This year there are four vacancies for Chartered Engineers on the council.

President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins
at 2016 Annual Conference
Last year the Annual conference of the society the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins remarked “Engineering interacts with all other forms of life. The future of the profession will see engineers at the centre of planning, not simply asked to join in the execution of particular tasks, but in designing transformation.”

The Engineers Ireland Council is made up of elected members representing the regional and divisional spread of the organisation. Although the organisation has perhaps an unfair reputation as being primarily for Civil, Structural and Local Government engineers it does in fact cater to all branches of the profession, manufacturing and processing and all the myriad of associated sub-groups and allied sectors.

There are two excellent candidates whose names are before the membership and who represent the processing and automation disciplines. These are John O'Sullivan  and Kieran Fallon.

John O’Sullivan is Engineering Director of Douglas Control and Automation, delivering automation and functional safety solutions to the pharmaceutical, medical device, food and beverage and transport sectors. A lifelong space enthusiast, last year he published “In the Footsteps of Columbus, European Missions to the International Space Station” and has given talks on the subject during Science week, Space week and Engineers week.

Kieran Fallon is an Electrical Engineer and Manager of Electrical and Instrumentation at DPS Engineering, Dublin. He has 30 years’ experience in engineering design including projects in pharmaceuticals, chemical and water treatment industries. He is well placed to be an advocate for the ‘working engineer’ on the Council .

Voting to fill these vacancies is in progress at present. All votes are cast electronically.
